Randy and Karen Sowers started farming in 1981. Over time, they added with Pladot Mini-Dairy equipment their on-the-farm-dairy processing plant, the first in Maryland.

Today, three generations work on the farm. South Mountain Creamery is an essential part of the local economy and employs over 75 people.
